DATE - AUGUST 1st, 2010 - 8am
Beech Fork Lake is located 15 minutes from downtown Huntington. From I-64, take exit 8 and go south on route 152. Travel about 5 miles south and go left at Beech Fork Road (just past the railroad tracks). Follow the signs and it’s 4 miles to the lake. Parking is available at the Marina (by the dam) and before the dam in the lower parking lot. Shuttle buses will be available race morning.
There are 3 races being held: a triathlon, triathlon relay and a duathlon.
The triathlon has a half-mile swim, 15 mile bike and 2.9 mile loop run. This may be done as a relay of 2 or 3 people. The duathlon has the 2.9 mile loop instead of the swim and the loop is run in the opposite direction from the 2nd loop. It is a scenic course.
All races start at 8am and are chip timed.
There will be tech t-shirts for all participants; a Dean Ornish spaghetti dinner the nite before; custom made medals; and awards from Blenko Glass. There is also an award for the best relay team name (be creative).
BIKE COURSE - start at the beach and ride to route 152 on Beech Fork Road; turn right on 152 and then a quick left after the railroad tracks and another quick left onto Lynn Creek Road; turn right onto Lower Newcomb Creek Road and take this to Rt. 75 and turn right; take this to the end and turn right onto Rt. 152 and then back to Beech Fork.
Click here for the course map. This is the current 15 mile course we will be using. For those who have done the longer course you will see that the 2 major hills on the course have been taken out. This leaves the hills in and out of the beach area as the only 2 significant hills. Basically the course has become very fast.
AWARDS - age groups male and female every 10 years in the triathlon and duathlon as well as Clydesdale and Athena in the triathlon. Relay awards are for first 3 teams in female, male and mixed. In 2010 we are getting the awards from Blenko Glass.
*** Registration for St. Mary's employees is best done on line this year. Make sure you bring a St. Mary's ID at packet pickup since this is how you take advantage of the reduced entry fees.
