RACE DAY
The race site opens at 6am. The road closes at 6:30 however so if you want to drive your bike and equipment to the race site you should arrive early. Bikes may be left at the site the night before from 7 – 9pm. Parking for the race will be at the Dam site and shuttle buses may be taken to the race site (2 miles away) or bikes may be ridden from the parking area to the race site Saturday morning. Those in relays who are not biking may prefer the walk from the marina to the beach along the trail next to the water. It’s only a 15 minute walk.
TRIATHLON FAQS
Can I register on race day?
NO. The last time to register is at the pasta party Saturday night, if there are spots left.
Who times the race?
A company called Event-Tech (www.event-tech.com). They do a fabulous job and time some very prominent races held in this country and we are very glad they do our race. This ensures that quality of the race is outstanding despite not being a professional race where money is given out. Also, you will get splits for your 3 individual legs of the race as well as your T1 and T2 times (the times in the transition area).
My training is going well/not so well. Is it possible to change races?
Yes. This must be done by 6pm at the latest on Saturday at the packet pickup. This CANNOT be done on race morning.
I am entered in the race but because of an injury cannot compete. Can I defer my participation to next year or get a refund?
Sorry, but no.
I registered today for the race. When will I receive notification of acceptance?
If you registered online this is your notification. (It would be best to print this to be safe in case there are any computer glitches.) If you applied in person or by mail then we will send you a postcard for confirmation. Bringing this to packet pickup would be best but not mandatory.
Where is the Pasta Party / Packet Pickup on Saturday?
At the Huntington Internal Medicine Group 5170 Rt. 60 East – just off the 29th street exit on I-64 (exit 15). The hours for this are 5 – 8pm. The food is free for participants and $5 for guests over 8 years old. (Those under 8 may eat for free).
How do I become a volunteer?
We will have a sign up on the website in the near future. You can also contact anyone involved in the race organization. All volunteers get a great t-shirt. We like to have volunteers pair up also for safety reasons as well as social reasons, so sign up your friend.
Is there parking at the race site?
Unfortunately no. The dam parking is 2 miles from the beach where the race starts and ends. Most people will park at the dam on the morning of the race and simply ride their bikes to the start for a nice warm-up. The other option is to come to the beach the night before and drop things off at the start and then park at the dam the next morning and take a shuttle to the start. There is also a path along the water from the marina to the beach, which takes about 15 minutes to walk. This would be a good option for relay participants without bikes or for spectators.
Describe the Transition Area?
This will be a fenced in area restricted to the racers during the race. There will be bike racks set up the night before so you can leave your bikes there between 7 and 9pm if you want. You cannot ride your bike in this area. You walk/jog it to the entrance and make sure you walk over the computer chip timing mat before you get on the bike. Similarly, you must dismount the bike and walk over the mat before entering the transition area on return.
When will the shuttles leave to bring us back to our cars?
The road to the beach will stay closed until the last biker finishes for safety purposes. In all likelihood that means that the road will open at 10:15am.
